Drive shaft taper area should be cleaned up on a
lathe or use emery cloth on any high spots by hand. This will insure the pinion will in fact seat out properly on drive
shaft when installed. When installing new pinion gear on the drive shafts, the new combination will now need to be shimmed.
This is also the only way you can test that the drive shaft is not bent and that you have properly cleaned up taper
area. This is the area were pinion seats out on drive shaft.
